To support the Chair of the Board of Trustees by ensuring the board functions smoothly and in line with its values, aims and legal obligations.
responsibilities
Ensuring the smooth and efficient administration of meetings of Trustees including the AGM
Preparing agendas in consultation with the chair, all trustees and, where appropriate, staff, and circulating them and any supporting papers in good time for attendees to prepare
Ensuring decisions made by the board of trustees are in accordance with the organisation’s governing document and reflect the charity’s objectives
Ensuring that decisions comply with relevant legislative and regulatory requirements
Ensuring that actions agreed upon by Trustees (both during meetings and informally) are acted on
Taking and circulating minutes of board meetings, ensuring that the minutes are signed by the chair once they have been approved
Ensuring that MASS Actions meets its charitable objectives as laid out in the articles of association

Essential
Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties and responsibilities of trusteeship.
A firm commitment to the values and aims of MASS Action, including the breaking down of hierarchies
Organisational ability and good communication skills, especially including listening, both formally and interpersonally
Facilitation skills, ability to motivate staff and volunteers and bring people together
Desirable
Knowledge and understanding of international migration and current issues affecting it, including experience of displacement
A non-hierarchical approach to problem solving and to management
Knowledge of the charity sector and charity law
time commitment
The Board meets at least 2 times a year and the Secretary is expected to be available both times each year
You will be able to complete the above tasks consistently for the minimum period of two years, we anticipate this requiring a minimum of 4 hours a week
expenses
The charity will cover expenses related to the carrying out of this role e.g. travel to and from meetings, costs of printing and posting documents and other reasonable costs
